Det oväntade – the unexpected

Vad utmärker en fantastisk vandring? Vyerna, naturen, vädret, dofterna, utmaningen eller sällskapet? Förmodligen en blandning av dessa. Eller, som i det här fallet, ett oväntat möte.

I will continue this post in English since I would like to share it with the couple I now will tell you about. What makes a hike fantastic? The views, the nature, the weather, the scents, the adventure or the company? Probably a mix of all these. Or, as in this case, an unexpected encounter.

We started creektrekking where the first bridge on the trail crossed the riverbed and we could hear the murmur of water nearby. Creektrekking here was not easy, big boulders and thorny vegetation made it tricky. After a while we jumped back on the trail again, just to find an impressive canyon in front of us. My daughter and I joked about “what if we would find a café on the top, wouldn’t that be something!”. Further up we passed by a man and his dog, they seemed to be working with something on the trail. We started talking and after a while he told us that he and his wife lived on the mountain just a few minutes away, close to the trail. He told us that we were welcome to charge our mobiles, drink water, use their toilet or, if we would like, have a cup of coffee!

I am usually careful in trusting strangers, but I’m glad I did this time. We spent an hour on the porch of Natalia’s and Felipe’s beautiful stone house @cansivella.

Drinking coffee, tasting their homemade olive oil and listening to their inspiring story of how they sold their company in a metropolitan city, to move here, rebuild this house and take care of all the olive trees. “We survived well in city, but here we feel alive. Physically it is hard, mentally it is fantastic” Natalia said.

Hopefully they will start a business, arranging “under the full moon dinners” and “coffee with a breathtaking view” for exhausted hikers. I any case, if you ever hike or creektrek here, make sure to bump into Felipe and Natalia!
